Be Content While Having Intent
In her book, Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving, author Celeste Headlee writes, “We’ve lost the balance between striving to improve and feeling gratitude for what we have.”
We work to maintain not necessarily a balance, but a tension between experiencing contentment with what we have or are able to do, with the pull to become more or just a little bit better than we were the day before.
When we hear the word balance, we think of things being equal. Let’s stop thinking of it as equal and start thinking of it as a tension between one end and the other. Tensions in our life are what make us whole. We can live life by being content with where we are, while having the intent to become a little bit more.
When we can master this tension, we can begin to feel our purest performance and fullest life.
Keep Competing.
