Story of Jeremiah Denton
Commander Jeremiah Denton was a prisoner of war for 10 months and he was chosen by the North Vietnamese to be in front of the cameras to show a face of the prisoners. He had a choice…
He could say nothing.
He could answer their questions as blandly as possible.
He could send a message to his family and kids back at home.
He could say everything his captors wanted him to say and he would get special treatment from them during the rest of his time as a prisoner.
He chose an act of defiance, as he answered, he blinked his eyelids. He blinked them in a pattern. A long blink, 3 long blinks and he continued until he spelled out
T-O-R-T-U-R-E in Morse Code for all the world to see.
He embarrassed his captors, he owned the stage, the stage did not own him.
We always hold the power to make a choice on how we compete. When we act, when we fight for every day, we fight for each other.
Be Your Best Today.
Keep Competing.
